light reading

…and just a little parallel text to some of my (Trenton) work to be discussed this Friday.  The segment titled Can We Speak of New Patients? is the piece for consideration for the discussion, but reading the either side of it, though only partially included in the scan may give a little more context.
The text is from Julia Kristeva's New Maladies of the Soul (1995), and is something I came across in my reading/research on topics such as decadence, abjectness, 19th cent. Paris, Edgar Allan Poe, the flaneur…  and anything with a sense of "apocalypse and encryption" - to borrow a term used by a one James Werner in his book American Flaneur: the Cosmic Physiognomy of Edgar Allan Poe (2004) to describe an underlying theme of Poe's work.

enjoy…
